There is something about us as human beings, in that we find
comfort in following what others believe. Truth be told it's less risky to
believe what others believe, because if we were wrong then it would be far much
better if other people went through it too. As they say misery loves company,
so if I’m going down I want some other people to go down with me.
I remember one time I embarked on a 7 day fast and one of
the biggest motivating factors was that other people were doing it with me. Others
were also suffering with me, so that motivated me to continue on. But there
comes a time where one has to stop being tossed to and fro by other people’s
ideas and believe in something for themselves.
James 1:6
6 But when you ask, you
must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the
sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
Life isn’t easy, and it sure has its ways of bringing you
down. However, one thing I have learnt is that it is in trials and tribulations
that your belief in something is tested. The strength of something is only
tested in the face of opposition. Sometimes, we have got to ask ourselves, why
do we believe in what we believe?
Why do we believe in Jesus Christ? Do we believe because
others believe or we believe that He is the risen King and because of him we
are able to enjoy life and have it more abundantly?
