Gravity has to be THE MOST ANTICIPATED (yeah I said it!!) christian hip hop album of all time. Its quite ironic considering Lecrae's philosophical shift from being labelled a christian rapper to a christian that raps. This was phenomenal in many ways because it really made many of us review our stance as a "Christians" in society. When I look at Jesus he was phenomenal in the way he loved sinners and non-believers but also met their needs. Jesus was not so concerned with the title but with the function that he had to carry out:
John 10: 37 Don't believe me unless I carry out my Father's work.
Matthew 20:28 - For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.
I love the approach that Lecrae has really taken with his recent projects, in the sense that he is focusing more on reaching (excuse the pun lol) the people and exposing the culture as a whole to the grace of God. Life is not easy and is very weighty and if Jesus failed to meet people's needs they would not have believed him as the Messiah. Truth is everything that we place above God always comes down and is never enough and when the Gravity of life comes down on you its not an easy place to be but Thank God we have a Messiah who was sent to release us from the captivity of life.
Cop this album to me its super dope!!! Time will tell if its a classic, BUT ITS STILL PHENOMENAL.
And let the Gravity themed blogs begin! But yeah well said.
ReplyDeleteAt some point we as Christians or The Church have to take a long hard look at what we have defined "The Gospel" as. That understanding will be imperative in dictating how we then take it those who need it; Christians AND Non-Christians.
I think albums like this should help us start that discourse in the hope that eventually we (including Lecrae himself) will get a clearer picture of what that is.
Cheers Rabbi i hear you on the blogs though lol
